September-December Tech Mentoring,
Ms. Mack is the new part time tech mentor for the year and together we are having a blast. We have had many new staff come to Caroline this year and it has been a busy time getting everyone set up. So far we have help workshops to set up everyday math games on-line for teachers, as well as Raz-kids and Reading A-Z. Teaching and refreshing staff on using School tool for attendance as well as report cards have also been held. There have been sessions during staff meeting on using Brain pop and a vocabulary builder to integrate into curriculum. Overall a busy year so far!
Until Next time!

A New Year 2010/2011
Every year we have different ways of reporting what is going on with Technology. I have chosen to start this style of reporting again to keep a detailed account of what is going on in fifth grade at Caroline. The beginning of the year started with a Buzz for Technology. In September I jumped write in with using laptops for the class. We did a guided discovery of proper use of a laptop and how to take care of materials. This was modeled after taking a summer workshop on resonsive classroom. I can honestly say I learned so much about my students and the various levels. I have students that have used laptops reguraly and feel comfortable with them as well as students that have never used a laptop, only desktops. All students were so excited!
It is now December, and technology is integrated throughout the curriculum. We have done web quests on immigration, reaserched various topics on the internet through the Caroline Library, listened to personal stories of Immigrants, use Everyday Math Games online, Raz-kids, Brain Pop and Garage band.
Overall, the students are having a blast and becoming problem solvers and are comfortable with broblem solving independently when using the computers. I have 23 students in my class this year and it is smooth sailing.
Until next time,
Ms. Rottenstein

March
Hello All,
It has been a busy time all around the school. The fifth grade classes are starting their imovie project and students are starting to work with new software. Garage band projects are a huge success in my classroom. For superintendents conference day Mr. Adam Bauchner and I will be running a conference in Digital Storytelling. We will see how it goes. More to come soon!

I had an exciting month. My students are so excited to be working with garage band! They love it and ask on a daily basis if we will be working on computers. They are going to use these skills to create their own individual works and speak essays. We have watched speeches on the comuter to support our Lucy Calkins Writing and made a class imovie. These activities have motivated my students and we are all having a great time!

January
This year has started off well. The printers are all on line. I have been helping teachers on line order books for next year and work on i-chat. Smartborad use in the school has increased and we received a new i-mac mobile that has 10 new computers. Looking forward to Superintendents Conference Day where Adam Bauchner and I will be teaching digital story telling. Until next time.

November
Hello All...
This has been a very busy month for all of us I am sure. There have also been some bumps along the road in gaining passwords for EM games and Learning A-Z. (All taken care of) Sharon Nelson has finished her imovie project and started using the smartboard on a daily basis in her classroom. She is hooked! Jen and I had a workshop for EMgames and promoting classes. Unfortunately not all people were able to attend so it did not go as well as planned. Andy and I also held a staff meeting on Reading A-Z and Wikis. It went well and a follow-up workshop will be held hopefully next month to continue with Wikis. I will keep you posted...

October
This last month has been full of running around helping teachers with different technologies. Mrs. Nelson is loving working with imovie and we have been trouble shooting on a daily basis. She has been successful in adding audio to her movies and hopefully the final products will be completed soon. Jane Clark has made a blog to support the Write-on committee. Finally, next wednesday Jen Goodmark and I will be running a staff meeting to inform the staff about EM games and Reading A-Z.
